England 2 Ireland 2 Barrett 20th Rossiter 75th
The second game started as did the first with England hitting the Irish defence hard from the kick-off. Ten minutes in England were ahead after a terrific strike from just inside the Irish half. The pouring rain made it very difficult for keeper Chelsea Noonan and she had no chance with the goal. Ireland retaliated and 10 minutes later a killer pass from Forth Celtics Ciara Rossiter fell to Brierley who, spotting the run of Milford United’s Amber Barrett, lobbed the ball over the top for Amber to finish in real style. With the game level, both teams fought hard looking for the next goal and 5 minutes from half time, England went ahead with a controversial goal. The Irish players were convinced that the ball was knocked the ball from Noonan’s hands, protests however went unheard and England were a goal up at the break.
Injury ended Brierleys game at half time and saw Peamounts, Rebekah Carroll take to the field along with our own Amy Corcoran in goal. Ireland went on the attack from the start and never gave up. England had their chances but Corcoran in the Irish goal was not for beating. Irelands break through can in the 75 minute when Forth Celtics Ciara Rossiter smashed the ball home from 18 yards giving the keeper no chance. Ireland were level but could not eke out a winner in the time remaining.
Two fantastic games, two excellent results, and two very special performances from Broadfords Amy Corcoran and Avril Brierley. We wait with anticipation for the next game and to see our Broadford Internationals take to the pitch and earn more international honours. International Honours for Broadford girls
A fantastic day for Avril Brierley and Amy Corcoran as they earned their first international caps for the Ireland Under 15 girls team in their match against England today (Wednesday 11th August). England 2 Ireland 1 Brierley, 50th,min This was the new seasons first outing for the Ireland Under 15s girls, and for our two Broadford players, Amy Corcoran and Avril Brierley. They could hardly have had a better start. After the morning training session, Avril was handed the Captains arm band and led the Irish Squad out to face England. The English girls started the stronger in the opening half, and led with a super strike 25mins in. Ireland defended very well and kept it to 1-0 at the break.
The second half saw our own Amy Corcoran replace Douglas Halls, Chelsea Noonan in the Irish Goal. Ireland pushed hard for the equalizer and in the 47min Brierley smashed one from 20 yards only to see her effort saved. Further pressure saw Milford United’s Amber Barrett shot from 22 years well saved by the English keeper. The Irish assault was relentless and the girls efforts paid off when a pass from outside right was met by Brierleys head forcing the english keeper to palm the ball straight back. Avril converted the rebound brilliantly.
With the game now level it was all to play for. Amy was called upon as the english team fought back and denied the home side with four super saves before a chip from the English forward, in the 65th min, was just one strike too far.
England held on to their lead despite the best efforts of the visitors but the Irish girls can reflect on a great effort which perhaps deserved a better reward.
