 Sad News A devastating weekend for the club as following the passing of George Teeling and James Masterson we also lost James Gill on Saturday morning. James lost his long battle against cancer and passed peacefully with his family around him. The thoughts and prayers of all connected with Broadford Rovers are with Declan, Geraldine, Stephen, Carl and Holly at this difficult time. Sad News A sad day (Friday 17th May) for the club as we heard of the passing of George Teeling and James (Hocker) Masterson. George was a founding member of the club while James was the father of current senior team player Derek Masterson and a great supporter. The Executive Committee would like, on behalf of the club and all of its members, to pass on condolences to both the Teeling and Masterson families on their loss, our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. Club Announcement Fundraising for the James Gill Cancer Fund - 15th April 2013 The recent Benefit Night held in the Coach House raised a massive €22,500 for the James Gill Cancer Fund. Chairman Harry Worthington thanked all of the managers and coaches who helped selling tickets and on the night. He paid tribute to the wider community in Broadford, Ballinteer, Churchtown, Whitechurch and Dundrum for supporting the fund raising in such numbers. He also acknowledged neighbouring clubs, the leagues (DDSL, SDFL and the LSL), not to forget all those who contributed spot prizes and items for auction. Harry added "On behalf of the club we send our very best wishes to James for a speedy departure to the US to take up his new treatment in the Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, and of course we wish him all the very best from everyone associated with Broadford Rovers" If you wish you can continue to donate directly to James Fund online at www.jamesgillfund.com  Many of you will know James Gill who played for Broadford Rovers from the Academy up to Under 17s in 2010. James Dad, Declan, was a team manager and gave eleven years of voluntary service to the Club and James played nearly two hundred games scoring over twenty goals, mainly from wide midfield positions. Just three months after James "retired" from under age football he was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. He has been battling the disease now for two years and he has undergone numerous surgeries and bouts of chemotherapy. His medical team has now recommended him to a hospital in New York for treatment, this hospital is trialing a treatment for his form of cancer and they are hopeful of being able to help him. However, as the treatment in only on trial the HSE cannot provide finance for him to go to New York. His family are therefore now trying to raise €80k to fund treatment and travel expenses. The treatment won't start until the funds are in place. The task is very challenging but Declan has commenced the fundraising through his workplace colleagues. The Club is organising a benefit night in early April which we hope all club members will support, details will appear on the facebook page and the website over the next few weeks. Some of James former teammates are also looking at ways of raising funds. We need to get some momentum behind the drive for cash quickly and we would ask anyone with connections to the club, however tenuous, to see if they could help us with fund raising activities, in addition to our benefit night, or even with simple donations.
